The Premier of Ontario, Daulton McGuinty and the school board of Ontario has decided to allow cell phone during class. At the University of Western Ontario Students in a extra curricular club of over 100 students worked very hard and put in a lot of time to research this. They went all over the province to evaluate students and learning with cell phones in class.  The students have worked on this study for over 2 years and finally had it good enough to bring to the attention of the school board. the school board found it very interesting and let it go to the Premier. He also agreed that why not try it and see if it benefits our schools. Now on September 7, every School in Ontario will be allowed this privilege, and the outcome will be being evaluated, on if it is effecting positively or negitivly.

Newspaper Assingment, Sept 9th

Questions:
Based on our discussion and information you find online, answer the following questions on your blog.

1. What makes a newspaper different from other printed media?

- The difference is a news paper tells you information about the world and true facts. Other media papers you can read are not always true, they are sometimes 'Yellow Journalism' type of writing.

2. What role did the Industrial Revolution play in expanding the readership of newspapers?

- It played a huge role, before everything had to be hand done, (slowly) and when this came along you could have 10times as many print outs in the same amount of time it took for it to be hand done. So instead of there being about 1000 print outs there would be 10 1000.

3. What kind of relationship did Pullitzer and Hearst have with each other? Why?

- Both newspapers and were accused by critics of sensationalizing the news in order to drive up circulation, although the newspapers did serious reporting as well. Poseph Puitzer’s newspaper was called "New York World," and William Randolph Heart’s was called "New York Journal." After two years Puitzer took over both newspapers and the world became the highest circulation newspaper in New York.

4. What is meant by 'Yellow Journalism?'

- Yellow journalism is based opinion masquerading as objective fact. The practice of yellow journalism involved sensationalism, distorted stories, and misleading images for the sole purpose of boosting newspaper sales and exciting public opinion.

5. When was the Spanish-American war? Who was involved?

- Spanish-American War, the 1898 conflict between the US and Spain, during which the US removed Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines from Spain, annexing the last 3.

6. Including at least one picture, cartoon, or news story in your answer, explain how yellow journalism help initiate the Spanish-American war.

- The newspapers made up stories about the Spanish. The stories were not true but no one could verify if they were real or not. Every one in America red the paper and became angry, and started a war.

7. What is meant by the term 'Sensationalism' ?

- subject matter, language, or style producing or designed to produce startling or thrilling impressions or to excite and please vulgar taste.

8. Would you mind telling a small lie if it meant making a sale or a bit of extra money for yourself?

- I probably would to an extent. Like I wouldn’t go to far like yellow journalism. But yes in a way I would make a story a little more exiting by exaggerating what happened to make more money.
