Music Video Analysis --> Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy

The Video:

- old woman walking a dog in a dark, industrial area

- her dog urinates on a abandoned tv on the ground

- the tv unexpectedly turns into life and kinda of un-leases an evil spirit, along with a gang of small children who go around a old building trashing it and scaring a man into his car

- a demand emerges from the tv and screams in the old women’s face and then gathers the children around him

- there is a random break of girls singing softly, holding hands and skipping

- the video was inspired by the time he was 14 and was chased by a 9 year old with a hammer

Thoughts:

- even though the lyrics are not meaningful the sound of the music makes it meaningful

- the music video has parts that are similar to scary movies: The Shining ( when the little girls skip and sing softly kind of like a nursery rhyme ) and Nightmare on Elm Street ( when the tv turns on and comes alive )

- very repetitive

- very kaotic cuts, fast pase,

- Richard made a kind of bad song good with the amazing, and powerful video

- music is fast and changes often

- I find it terrifying and the song and video together is kind of chilling

- the music is very disturbing even with out the video

- music has swirling noise and kind of distorted screaming that is hard to understand but has boarding lyrics anyways

- complex images at the start hard to understand but keps you interested

- the part with the little girls singing softly and skipping is creepy and gives the whole music video a crazy vibe that fits

- for people who enjoy this kind of music and twisted videos its amazing

- I would never listen to this genre of music but it was interesting an well done



Introduction to ME

Hello! My name is Megan Elizabeth Kernighan Little, I am 17 years young and turning 18 on June 17th!

I enjoy being active, I have been doing competitive cheerleading. I currently attend GDCI and am in my last year,  this coming September I am attending Fanshawe Collage for Photography. I enjoy buying my products from stores like H&M, Forever 21, Pink, Aritzia, Guess, LuluLemon.

I love all my friends from school, we just came back from a trip to Dominican. There was 34 of us, and had a great week. I currently drive a blue Jetta Volkawagen 2002 used car. 

I love my puppy Clayton (my mom named him) Clayton is 9 months old and is half jackrussel half boarder terrier. He is full of energy and he loves the beach just like me! I worked at Benmiller Inn for 2 and a half years and am currently working at Crabby Joes in Goderich. 

I Listen to Skrillex, Down With Webster, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Mac Miller, Beyonce, and hundreds more. I enjoy a lot of types of music but not so much country. I really like to watch Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, other than those two shows I don't watch tv very much. I              watch a lot of movies though. Some favourites are The Notebook, Up, Dirty Dancing, Blow. I don't read a lot but i like Nickolas Sparks, Meg Cabbot, and my favourite books are A Million Little Pieces, and Scare Tissue. 

I love spending time relaxing at the beach or my cottage. I am not fond of snow but I enjoy skiing. I am happiest in the summer seadooing, eatting good food and spending time with friends and family.

Assignment 1! Exploring an Artist

The asignment:

Black Music influences Pop Music in the rhythms - and we have a lot of new stuff breaking into the charts

Black Music is now dominant and when you’re looking at it, you’re focusing on that rhythm - the layers, the amount of percussion, etc.

We are going to form a group (can be small), to explore a particular artist from pre-1980.

Topic choices I have chosen is:

What is it about Macbeth and Victor that depicts evil?

OR

How does each book deal with evil characters and events? How is evil shown, defined, used or presented in the books?
Notes:

- they both go against god
- the are both selfish
- selfishness is the root of all evilness because it may hurt other poeple around you
- they are both disloyal to there loved ones
       --> Macbeth goes against his own king, and his responsibilities as a thane, and as a host, and a kinsman
       --> Frankenstein goes against his own creation (child) the monster, he rejects it, and refuses to take on the responsibility of guiding, teaching, etc, he doesn’t take responsibility for his creation’s murders and he takes no steps to help his own family when they are “under attack” from the monster

- Victor could have accepted the monster and been a good “parent” figure, which would have stopped the monster’s rampage
- Victor could have followed the monster’s demands for a “wife”
- they both suffer from HUBRIS - which means they both had a huge sense of their own importance (pride) and this is why each challenged God
- they both wanted to “take” or usurp God’s power in some way

Thesis -
The main characters in both novels depict evil, they depiction of evil is different but the same. These ways are they both go against god, they are both selfish and they are disloyal to there loved ones.

My Five Exam Questions

1. Compare the women in both the novels and compare there similarities and differences.

In the novel Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is very manipulative and plays a very dominant roll, very un-lady like or manly. Lady Macbeth seems to bring out the worst in Macbeth, she puts ideas in Macbeth’s head and pushes him to go further to be king. Elizabeth on the other hand brings out the best in Victor. Elizabeth loves nature and is very caring towards others. Both women in the novels have power and play a big part in the main characters decisions. but they are opposite. Lady Macbeth is crazy and has a uncontrollable will for power and wont stop at anything to get it. Elizabeth it not like that at all, she is grateful for what she has and is happy as she is.

Macbeth’s Insanity

            Shakespeare’s play Macbeth is known for evil powers but also for its good elements. The book is filled with murder, victory, and hard literature; it is a confusing piece of literature. Was Macbeth ill or was he being controlled by evil powers. Macbeth was ill, there was no evil spirits involved with Macbeth's crazy acts. He put ideas in his head and drove him self and mad with the help of Lady Macbeth.


In the beginning of the play Macbeth it tells us it takes place during the first century in Scotland. Macbeth and Banquo are in battle against Norway. The two knights, Macbeth and Banquo, are heading towards home and they come upon three witches. The witches tell Macbeth that he will rule Glamis, Cawdor and be king. "All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All Hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!" (Shakespeare I:iii:50). Macbeth gets the idea of being king and having power but he is not sure what to do with what the witches have told him. Macbeth leaves thinking if it’s going to happen let it happen. “ If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me, Without my sir.” (Shakespeare I:iii:144). The “spell” the witches say could just scare Macbeth and make him think he is being controlled. Even though it’s all in his mind. “Fair is foul, and foul is fair; Hover through the fog and filthy air”. (Shakespeare I:i:10)


Not only do the witches put ideas in Macbeth’s mind, his wife, Lady Macbeth drives him and pushes him to go further. Lady Macbeth clearly demonstrates masculinity, when she reads the letter from Macbeth. She likes the idea of being Queen, but she has a fear that her husband is too afraid. “ Too full o’ milk of human kindness. To catch the nearest way” (Shakespeare I:v:18). Lady Macbeth is eager to make Macbeth see things her way, and to make him reach his full potential. Mainly Lady Macbeth is hungry for the power at this point and she is going to make her husband be just as hungry for power. When Macbeth goes to murder King Duncan, Lady Macbeth doesn’t think he will get the job done. Macbeth kills the king but comes back to Lady Macbeth talking about his bloody hands. She tells him her hands are red too, but she would be ashamed to have a heart as white as Macbeth’s. Lady Macbeth challenges her husband’s masculinity and tells him to be more of a man.


Visions and hallucinations occur throughout the play. For example, when Macbeth is going to kill Duncan he sees a dagger floating in the air, covered with blood and pointing towards the king’s chamber. This is a hallucination that Macbeth is experiencing; his mind is reminding him of the bloody course on which he is going to be on. After Macbeth kills Banquo, Macbeth thinks he sees Banquo’s ghost sitting in a chair at the feast. This hallucination is Macbeth’s mind reminding him that he murdered his former friend. These hallucinations drive Macbeth over the edge to think he is insane. Not only does Macbeth start to have weird visions, Lady Macbeth eventually does too. She thinks her hands are stained with blood and cannot be washed off, and she starts to sleepwalk. It is difficult to tell if Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s hallucinations are real or a hallucination but in both cases it shows signs of their guilt from what they had done.


Macbeth is not being controlled by evil powers, he is driving him self insane. Macbeth starts to feel invincible when he goes to the witches and he has his future told he sees three apparitions the first apparition is a armored child the armored head says “beware of McDuff” the second apparition is a bloody child it say “no man born of a woman may harm you”. And finally the third apparition is a crowned child with a branch in its hand it says “you will not be harmed until the woods of Birham comes to you”. These apparitions make him feel invincible because all men are born of woman and trees can’t move so he feels invincible. These apparitions and his weak mindedness ultimately lead to his death.


In conclusion, Macbeth is influenced in many ways by things around him to have these illusions. These illusions show a lot of imagery in the play and set the mood in the play. As the play unfolds, you decide if Macbeth is crazy insane or if he is being controlled by a supernatural force. All the elements in the book over power Macbeth’s mind and because Macbeth is easily manipulated he could not control his actions. The hallucinations, Lady Macbeth, and the things the witches tell Macbeth create ideas in Macbeth’s mind. Macbeth eventually pays his price for the wrong he had done, and finds out the hard way that guilt is the most evil thing. The language Shakespeare uses must have been so hard to recognize when it was first published, today the novel is still a very hard read but we can appreciate the novel and Shakespear use of words . There are many different ways an audience can look at this novel. At the end of the story you can have your own opinion of what you thought.  is what destroyed Macbeth’s mind.

Act 5 Scene 5 - Macbeth Soliloquy - She Sould Have Died!

This soliloquy is very short, Macbeth has just received the news from a Sayton that his wife is dead. Macbeth has been so busy planning and getting ready for the battle he only takes a second to think about what has just happened. His mind is filled with horrible things, that his own wife’s death doesn’t bother him as much as it should. He talks about the meaning of life in the soliloquy and how Lady Macbeth shouldn’t have died now, she should have dies later, at a time that was not so inconvenient. Macbeth thinks of the day that lie ahead and he sees no life that he knows. But when he looks back on life he sees a pathway to death or the days and events leading up to her death. Macbeth says life is life a play, like when the actors come out and does his scene and then goes off the stage and he is finished. Macbeth thinks life is short and unmeaningful.

Act 3 Scene 1 - Macbeth Soliloquy - To Be Thus is Nothing!

In this soliloquy Macbeth is thinking of killing Banquo. Macbeth is so hungry for power he wants to make sure his spot for being kings is very secure and the only way to do that Macbeth thinks is to kill Banquo. Banquo is Macbeths good friend and Macbeth knows Banquo quit well, he knows Banquo is very wise, and fearless and can be valiant. Macbeth thinks that because Banquo is so smart Banquo might plot something against Macbeth to take the position of king. Macbeth does not realize it but Banquo is afraid of Macbeth because of Macbeth’s strong spirit. Macbeth has no sons ro continue to rule as king if Macbeth dies, but Banquo has sons so Macbeth has his mind set on killing his best friend to ensure his spot. Macbeth’s mind is overpowering his actions and there is not stopping him now.

Act 2 Scene 1 - Macbeth Soliloquy - Is This a Dagger!

In this soliloquy Macbeth is on his way to kill Duncan, he may have been controlled by evil powers, or was it a hallucination. Macbeth sees a dagger in front of him, that looks the exact same as the one he is going to kill Duncan with but he questions himself and what he sees. Macbeth can see the dagger is pointed towards to Duncan’s room, where Duncan is sleeping. He knows he is going to kill Duncan with a dagger and stab him to death, so he thinks the dagger is telling him to go and kill Duncan. Macbeth sees the dagger become covered in blood, he can not believe what he is seeing and thinks it is a hallucination.

Act 1 Scene 7 - Macbeth Soliloquy - If it Were Done!

In this soliloquy Macbeth is thinking of the consequences if he actually kills the king. He thinks if he kills the king it would be done fast and he would gain so much from doing something so quick, Macbeth realizes that he also would be risking everything if he did murder the king. He knows how people think he is loyal, even Duncan trusts him. Macbeth thinks that the all the people in the land would be so saddened by the death of such a wonderful king. The only thing now stopping Macbeth’s mind from thinking he should kill the king is he is dive to be king. Macbeth has so much drive to have power and has not signs of stopping till he has power.

Act 1 Scene 3 - Macbeth Soliloquy - Two Truths are Told!

In the soliloquy "Two Truths Are Told" from Act 1 Scene 3, Macbeth is taking in what has just happened. He had been told by the 3 witches after the battle that he will become king and now Rose and Angus have told him he could be the king. In this scene Macbeth is thinking to himself could they be right, could I be king. Rose and Angus tell Macbeth he was the thane of Glamis, is now the thane of Cawdor and will be the future king. When they tell Macbeth that he is now the thane of Cawdor, Macbeth realizes the things the witches told him came true. Macbeth thinks that since two things the witches told me are true the next one must come true, about him becoming king. Macbeth thinks the witches are smart and have told him the future, but he realizes the only way he would become king would be for King Duncan to be killed. Macbeth considers himself killing the king, but realizes he couldn’t kill the king because the king is chosen by god and by killing the king he would be sent to hell. After he makes these conceptions to what he has heard from two separate people (the 3 witches and Rose and Angus) Macbeth is left feeling very confused about the situation and about how he feels and what he is going to do next. He realizes time will go on no matter what he decides to do. So he leaves thinking what ever happens, happens and he’s fine with that.
